SUMMER AGILITY WORKSHOPS with Shirlee O'Neill

Shirlee O’Neill first became involved in organized dog sports in the 1980’s. She competed in obedience with her Welsh Springer who earned a UD and multiple H.I.T.s. In the 1990’s she got involved in agility and became hooked. Her English Cocker made breed history by becoming the first Engie to attain the AKC and USDAA Agility Championship (MACH 1,2 and ADCH) and to date, the only Engie to place at AKC Agility Nationals (2nd place in the 16 inch division). She currently competes in USDAA agility with her Puli at the Masters level.

Shirlee has instructed puppy, pet beginners, obedience and agility classes. Over the last 10+ years she has focused on teaching competitive agility (Foundation to Masters levels). She believes in building a solid foundation through positive training. Her ability to break down exercises helps both the handler and dog achieve success and learn good foundation skills. She enjoys working with all types of dogs and helping their handlers get the most out of the dog they have.

ONE-JUMP DRILLS - Building Blocks to Handling In this workshop we will start with one-jump exercises that form the building blocks of handling a dog in a sequence or course. We will then apply the principles of the 1-jump drills to mini-sequences of jumps and tunnels. Here you will learn how and when to execute different handling maneuvers -- i.e. front crosses, rear crosses, pushes, serpentine and forward sends.
Participating dogs should be able to sequence tunnels and 6-8 jumps at height. This workshop is geared towards dogs training at a “pre-novice” level or dogs that need to revisit basic handling.
Sunday, June 22, 9 am to Noon.
Fee: $85. $75 for DTCCC Training members. Limited 8 teams. Auditor only $25

MOTION CUES– How They Affect Your Dog’s Path: For an agility team to navigate a sequence/course smoothly and efficiently the handler must communicate to the dog where they are going next. Various handling cues help relay this information. In this workshop we will focus on how your motion (acceleration, deceleration, lateral movement) helps cue your dog to extend forward or to prepare itself for a turn.
Participating dogs should be able to sequence tunnels and 10-12 jumps. This workshop is geared towards dogs that are ready to compete or are competing at a Novice level.
It would be beneficial (though not required) that you are familiar with the One-Jump Drills. If you are not, you may want to consider auditing that session.
