Barbara Doran, CPDT

Dogs have always been a big part of my life. My first experiences with obedience training and show handling began at the age of 9. I was a member of a 4-H dog club in Massachusetts for over 8 years. The first AKC title I earned with a dog was "Companion Dog" (CD), for my Cairn terrier "Gil". She earned the title when I was 14.

Animal behavior was my major in college (Psychobiology). I was extremely fortunate and privileged having opportunities to study coyotes in the wild, work with chimpanzees at a primate center, and to study Pere David deer with the National Zoo. Unfortunately reality struck after graduation and I had to "make a living", leaving a promising career in animal study for the corporate world. I have continued working with animals, mostly horses and dogs, in the years that followed.

In 2000 I decided to resume a more active role with dogs and dog training. It was then that I discovered the DTCCC. I have been very impressed with the wealth of knowledge, professionalism, and camaraderie held by the instructors and within the membership. With my current Cairn, Casey, I have enjoyed many facets of training and competition spirited with the support of the club and its members. I can proudly say that Casey has earned his conformation championship as well as titles in Rally Obedience and Agility.

In an ongoing pursuit to increase my knowledge and skills I studied for, and earned, my Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers credentials and am a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT). I am a member of the APDT and the Cairn Terrier Club of America, in addition to my affiliation with the DTCCC as a member, instructor, past President and current Director.
