Chris Civil, CPDT

My interest in working with dogs began over 25 years ago after acquiring my first Golden Retriever showing and titleing in breed shows, obedience trials, and working tests. This long time hobby made a turn toward profession in 1991 after leaving Ohio for western New Jersey where I had the good fortune to meet and train with Suzanne Clothier. Suzanne’s knowledge and talent, and her holistic approach to teaching dogs was inspiring. And along with the discovery of positive training methods spurred a pastime into a passion for learning and training dogs. I continued my educational efforts through membership with The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and in 2002 passed the exam to earn the credential of Certified Pet Dog Trainer.

For the past twelve years I have been teaching family pet, obedience and rally competition classes, clicker training, and other specialty classes utilizing positive training based on the science of animal learning. I also provide in home training and behavior consultation services.

I am very pleased to be associated with DTCCC and it’s commitment to education and promotion of contemporary, positive training methods. Currently I serve with a very dedicated group of people on the DTCCC's Board of Directors as Information Secretary, and a member of the club's Therapy Dog/ Obedience Demo Team. On the home front I share my life with my husband Richard DDE (dog dad excellent!) and our three Golden Retrievers, Indy 15 yrs, Maizee 6, and newest addition Ray, 1.
