Joan Forry, CPDT-KA

I earned my Ph.D. in Philosophy from Temple University and went on to teach applied ethics to college students. I especially enjoyed teaching animal ethics and helping students understand the nuances of various relationships that humans develop with non-human animals.

In 2010, we adopted our first dog, Mulligan (Lab/German Short-haired Pointer mix). I was fascinated by canine behavior and decided to make a career shift from university professor to dog training instructor. I am a Certified Trick Dog Instructor (CTDI) and I am currently earning my CTC (Certificate in Training and Counseling) through the Academy for Dog Trainers. I love teaching basic manners, tricks, and husbandry behaviors. I own and operate The Dog Abides, LLC, a private training business.

My husband and I live in Chester Springs with our dear Mulligan, and four other dogs. Paloma is a ten-year-old Chihuahua, Gustavo is a twelve-year-old Chihuahua, Miles (pictured) is a seven-year-old Shih Tzu/Chihuahua mix, and Thelma is a two-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. Mulligan has earned his Novice Trick Dog title, and Miles has earned his Advanced Trick Dog title.

When I’m not training dogs, I am working on my ongoing photography project called Miles on Hydrants. When I was living in Los Angeles in 2014, Miles developed a habit of jumping on top of fire hydrants. Now, he’s balanced on fire hydrants in over a hundred cities in twenty-one states. I also enjoy refinishing furniture.
