Nancy F. Fitzgerald, CPDT-KSA, CBCC-KA, PMCT-2

My preoccupation with dogs began approximately eleven years ago when I began volunteering at a local animal shelter. Within a few months I was working part-time in the kennels and learning about basic training techniques from the shelter’s trainer. As my involvement with the shelter dogs grew, so did my fascination with dog behavior.

This passion eventually led me to study with trainer and author Pat Miller; I have attended multiple intern academies at her training center in Hagerstown, Maryland over the past seven years. I also regularly attend seminars and workshops with other leading experts in the field to learn new ways to help our companion dogs. I have been a certified professional dog trainer since 2005 and in the fall of 2011 completed the new skills portion of the certification examination to earn the designation of CPDT-KSA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge & Skills Assessed). I also recently passed the behavior consulting examination to become a CBCC-KA (Certified Behavior Consultant Canine – Knowledge Assessed).

I currently operate a dog training business that offers group and private training in the greater Wilmington/Newark, Delaware area. I also continue to work part-time at Delaware Humane Association, where I perform intake assessments for new dogs coming into the shelter, provide behavior counseling for potential adopters, and conduct training sessions for both the shelter dogs themselves as well as new staff and volunteers. I currently have six dogs of my own, all but one of whom are former shelter dogs. I look forward to joining such a talented group of instructors and students at DTCCC and hope that we can continue to learn about our canine companions together.
