Sabine Platten, CPDT

When I had to give up my horse because of orthopedic problems, we acquired our first Labrador, Alix. That started my love affair with dog training. She became my first teacher and I learned my biggest lesson from her: to be humble in my partnership with creatures that offer us so much, so freely.

While I enjoy training and competing and have titled dogs in AKC conformation and obedience, AKC and APDT rally and AKC and USDAA agility, I love just being with my dogs. My passion is puppies and I indulge it by breeding an occasional litter and by teaching puppies and their families how to build confidence and develop a relationship based on trust, fairness and positive training.

I was an instructor with What A Good Dog for ten years. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT), continuing to improve my skills and understanding of the wonderful animals with whom we share our lives by attending seminars presented by cutting edge educators: Dr. Ian Dunbar, Terry Ryan, Leslie Nelson, Suzanne Clothier, Brenda Aloff, Sue Sternberg, Greg Derrett, and Steve White to name just a few.

Because DTCCC’s mission is positive training and community education, I am excited about being a member of this instructor team. I share my life with my very supportive husband, Peter; we are owned, trained and loved by our five Labradors: Campbell, 13; Dreamer, 9, her daughter, Beatrice, 5, her granddaughter, Kiri, 2 1/2 and grandson, Jamie, 15 months; and our guides from the Rainbow Bridge – beautiful Alix and handsome Kes.
