Nancy Fitzgerald, CPDT-KSA, CBCC-KA
My preoccupation with dogs began almost twenty years ago when I began volunteering at a local animal shelter. This passion eventually led me to study extensively with trainer and author Pat Miller; I have attended multiple intern academies at her training center in Hagerstown, Maryland. I also regularly attend seminars and workshops with other leading experts in the field to learn new ways to help our companion dogs. I have been a certified professional dog trainer since 2005 and added the skills assessment in the fall of 2011 to earn the designation of CPDT-KSA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge & Skills Assessed). I also completed the behavior consulting examination to become a CBCC-KA (Certified Behavior Consultant Canine – Knowledge Assessed) and am a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional program (KPA CTP).
I currently operate a dog training business that offers training and behavior modification in the greater Wilmington/Newark, Delaware area. I continue to support shelter adoptions with special programs for recent adopters and I recently published a guide to helping newly adopted dogs adjust to their new homes entitled "Adoption? PLAN SMART - A Guide to Handling the Early Days with Your New Rescue Dog." I currently live with four dogs of my own, all of whom were shelter adoptions or foster failures.
