Match-to-Sample
Prerequisites: Level 2-Beyond Basics
Dogs are capable of so much more than we often realize—especially when training is engaging and fun! One amazing skill they can learn is identifying a specific object from a mix of both familiar and brand-new items. This concept, called Match-to-Sample, is a foundational skill that helps build more advanced abilities like Modifier Cues, Adduction, Mimicry, and even early forms of Counting.
In this activity, we’ll teach your dog how to “match to sample” and ultimately your dog will be shown a toy or household object, remember it and then find the matching item from a small group. It’s a great mental workout, confidence-builder, and a wonderful way to see just how smart our dogs truly are!
Duration Hold / Retrieve
Prerequisites: Successful completion of manners level 1 & level 2 or the equivalent.
Your dog must understand reward markers and be comfortable being crated in your training space.
Whether for tricks, rally, obedience, or just for cute photos, it is fun to have your dog be comfortable having things in their mouth. Teach your dog to happily pick items up, take items from your hand, and hold them in your dog’s mouth for a photo op. This six-week class will give your dog a happy association to putting their mouth on items.
Duration Behaviors
Prerequisite: Level 2-Beyond Basics
Duration training is all about helping your dog stick with a behavior—calmly, confidently, and for longer periods of time. In this class, we’ll build duration into behaviors such as chin rests, nose touches, target holds, and other foundational targeting exercises.
We start small, celebrating quick successes before gradually increasing the time your dog maintains each behavior.
It’s a fun, confidence-building class that strengthens communication, boosts impulse control, and deepens your teamwork—while giving your dog practical skills they can use in everyday life and more advanced training!
